Petition to Open AKC Rottweiler Standard

Petition to Open AKC Rottweiler Standard

With many undocked Rottweiler's competing at AKC shows, it is important that the Rottweiler standard address the carriage and faults of the undocked tail for our judges' reference.

As a member in good standing in the American Rottweiler Club, I sign this petition in agreement to amend the standard for the breed, dated June 28, 1990, to include a description and faults of the undocked tail as described below. No other section of the standard will be opened or amended by this petition.

Once we reach 20% of the club's total membership, and the signatures are verified, the following amendment to the AKC Rottweiler Standard will be presented to the American Rottweiler Club Board who will send it out for a vote by the general membership.

Amendment to the AKC Rottweiler Standard - August 1st, 2021

Tail: The set of the tail is more important than its length. Properly set, it gives an impression of elongation of the topline; carried slightly above horizontal when the dog is excited or moving. Docked, the tail is short, close to the body leaving one or two tail vertebrae.  Undocked, the tail is carried straight or upward curved and may hang at rest. Faults: Tails with kinks, strong lateral deviation, or ringtails.
